
When a dashboard goes unused, the reflex is to blame the team. More often the dashboard answers questions no one is asking, or asks people to hunt for the number they need.
A useful dashboard starts from the decisions it is meant to support. If it does not change what someone does next, it is a report, not a tool.
Fewer, clearer views usually beat a dense wall of charts. The measure of a dashboard is whether people open it without being told to.
